Mix101.1's House That Melbourne Built

In conjunction with Burbank Homes and Laurimar Estate, Mix101.1FM recently gave away a new house valued at $480,000 to a lucky listener in the House That Melbourne Built Competition. Omega Security Solutions played an active role in providing the lock and keys for the competition. Our assignment was to manufacture and supply a lock with 10 keys, of which only one key would open the door.

The live to air broadcast was held at Laurimar Estate on chilly and wet Friday morning. The wet weather didn't stop hundreds of people from turning up and enjoying a barbecue, coffee and lots of entertainment from starts such as Mel B, Timomatic and of course the Mix101 crew featuring Chrissie and Jane. Among the huge crowd were 150 x lucky listeners who’d won the opportunity to go into the draw for a 1 in 10 chance to win the house. Each contestant had a key with their name and details and these were deposited into a barrel with 10 x people drawn out throughout the course of the morning. A large stage was erected for the show with a frame and exact replica of the front door to the new house. Omega supplied and installed the lock to the door and our technician Matthew Harders was on site at 5.30am to test and re-check that all was in accordance.

By 8am, the 10 x contestants had all been drawn and we were  ready to start the nerve wracking attempt to win the house. The 10 x Bilock Keys were placed in a bowl on the stage and one by one the contestants came onto the stage, plucked out a key and tried their luck. Amazingly the first 8 contestants all failed to open the door and it came to two. The excitement in the air was electric ( literally as lightning cracked all around  ) and everyone held their breath as contestant number 9 approached and tried her key. It wasn't to be and this meant that the lucky last person must have the key that won the house. It couldn't have been scripted any better as young mother Victoria from Tarneit nervously stepped up and tried her key. Of course, it opened and the whole stage erupted with cheers, streamers, tears and more lightning! Congratulations to the winner Victoria, her husband Matt and their baby Marcus!  We hope they've framed their lucky key and it takes pride of place their brand new house. One thing’s for sure, they’ll never forget this day.

Omega was proud to be involved and our sincere thanks to Emma Keatch and all the crew at Mix101FM who made it such a great event. Big thanks also to our technician Matthew Harders for all his work on site to ensure everything went as planned.
